Beirut | April 20, 2025: Lebanese security forces have apprehended several individuals suspected of planning rocket attacks on Israel. The arrests were made following a raid on an apartment near the southern port city of Sidon, where authorities confiscated rockets and launchers intended for the operation.
The Lebanese army stated that these arrests are connected to earlier detentions announced this week. Military intelligence, while investigating the previous case, uncovered information about a new planned rocket attack, leading to the recent operation. The detainees have been referred to judicial authorities for further proceedings.
In a related development, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun addressed the sensitive issue of disarming Hezbollah, describing it as a “delicate” matter that requires appropriate circumstances to implement. He emphasized that any approach to this issue must be conciliatory and non-confrontational to preserve civil peace.
Meanwhile, tensions escalated as Lebanon’s health ministry reported that an Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in Kaouthariyet al-Saiyad, located between Sidon and Tyre, resulted in one fatality and two injuries. Another strike on a house in Hula, near the border, also led to one death. The Israeli military has not released an official statement regarding these incidents.
These events underscore the ongoing volatility in the region, highlighting the challenges faced by Lebanese authorities in maintaining security and stability amid escalating tensions.
