The United Nations has issued a grave warning about the escalating humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, revealing that nearly 19,000 children have been hospitalised in 2025 due to acute malnutrition. The figures highlight the devastating impact of the ongoing Israeli blockade and military assault on the besieged territory, now entering its second year.
According to UN data, these children are suffering from severe food insecurity and life-threatening levels of malnutrition, with many lacking access to clean water, basic healthcare, and essential nutrients. Humanitarian agencies have consistently warned that the destruction of Gaza’s infrastructure, including bakeries, farms, and aid distribution networks, is pushing the enclave into a state of famine.
The UN blames continued Israeli military operations for blocking aid and destroying supply routes, especially in northern Gaza, where the crisis is most severe. With limited access to medical supplies and food, hospitals remain overwhelmed and unable to provide lifesaving care.
International organizations, including UNICEF and WHO, have reiterated urgent calls for an immediate ceasefire and full humanitarian access, warning that without swift intervention, the death toll among children could rise sharply.
As of mid-2025, the death toll in Gaza has exceeded 55,000, with children bearing the brunt of the violence, displacement, and starvation. UN officials have labelled the crisis as one of the worst humanitarian emergencies in recent history.
