The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the deployment of 20 new Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) battalions in Jammu and Kashmir, a move that will see the induction of over 20,000 additional personnel in the region, according to a report by Free Press Kashmir.

The decision, reportedly aimed at bolstering security in the Union Territory, comes amid continuing tensions and counterinsurgency operations. Sources suggest these battalions will be stationed across sensitive districts, particularly in South Kashmir, which has witnessed heightened security activity in recent months.

Each battalion consists of over 1,000 personnel, indicating a massive reinforcement of central forces in the valley. The deployment is expected to support local law enforcement agencies in managing law and order, conducting anti-militancy operations, and ensuring security during upcoming events and elections.

However, the move has sparked concerns among residents and rights groups, who fear it may lead to increased militarization and civilian distress in the already volatile region.

The MHA has not issued an official statement on the timing and exact areas of deployment, but preparations are reportedly underway.
