A significant ally from the south is set to join the Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar. On August 27, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and DMK Parliamentarian Kanimozhi Karunanidhi will join Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the ongoing march, highlighting opposition unity ahead of state polls (The Siasat Daily).

Context of the Yatra

Launched on August 17 from Sasaram/Purnea, the 16-day Voter Adhikar Yatra has covered over 1,300 km across more than 20 districts of Bihar. It aims to spotlight alleged voter deletions and manipulation in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and to safeguard citizen voting rights (The Times of India, Hindustan Times).

Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, has carried the campaign as a symbol of grassroots resistance—often riding motorcycles and holding public rallies across towns like Araria, Katihar, and Munger (The Times of India, www.ndtv.com).

Political Significance & Broader Opposition Backing

This event underscores growing national-level alliances. Stalin and Kanimozhi’s participation signals southern political solidarity with Bihar’s INDIA bloc campaign. Other leaders from the bloc are also joining in during the yatra’s course, including Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and several state CMs (The Times of India, www.ndtv.com).

The participation aims to frame the campaign not just as a state-level protest but as a collective Indian movement defending democracy and electoral fairness (The Siasat Daily, The Times of India).
