Muzaffarnagar, May 25, 2025 — In a disturbing incident that underscores rising communal tensions, a mob in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district attacked four individuals on suspicion of transporting cattle meat. The incident took place on Saturday near the Sikheda village under Jansath police station limits.

According to police sources, a group of locals intercepted a vehicle believed to be carrying meat. The confrontation quickly escalated into violence, with the mob allegedly assaulting the occupants and setting the vehicle on fire.

The four men were seriously injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.

District police chief Brijesh Kumar Singh confirmed the incident and said that efforts are underway to identify and arrest those responsible. Preliminary findings indicate that the mob acted based on mere suspicion without any verification.

Rights activists have raised concerns over the increasing number of vigilante attacks in the name of cow protection. The incident adds to a growing list of similar acts of mob violence that have taken place in recent years across several states in India.
