Srinagar | April 23, 2025 —
The Kashmir Valley witnessed a complete shutdown on Tuesday, marking a rare moment of collective mourning and protest after a tragic incident in Pahalgam led to the deaths of 25 civilians, with 10 others reportedly injured. This is the first valley-wide shutdown observed in nearly 35 years.
Political parties across the spectrum — including PDP, NC, JKPC, and the Hurriyat — expressed solidarity with the victims’ families. Business establishments, schools, and public transport remained closed in most parts of the valley, with civil society and religious organizations calling for peace and justice.
People took to the streets in several areas with silent processions and candlelight vigils, underscoring a united call against violence in the region.
