On August 4, 2025, Jammu & Kashmir Police arrested Kaif Ahmed, a B.Tech student at Central University of Jammu and resident of Siwan, Bihar, on charges of supplying illegal firearms to criminal gangs operating in the Jammu and Samba districts. The arrest followed a six-month investigation into a shooting incident at a wedding in Miran Sahib on February 23, when police detained two gangsters and later identified Ahmed as the main arms supplier.
Authorities recovered a pistol and live cartridges from Ahmed. During questioning, Ahmed reportedly admitted to sourcing and distributing weapons—primarily pistols—brought from Bihar to local gangsters. Police have registered cases under Section 109/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3/25 of the Arms Act. Further investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected as the network is traced.
Senior officials described the case as a significant breakthrough in disrupting weapons channels feeding criminal syndicates in the region. It also raised serious concerns over the involvement of students in organized illegal arms trafficking.
