A shocking revelation has emerged from Jammu and Kashmir where a man impersonating a doctor at SKIMS Soura allegedly secured the position using forged documents and continued to draw a salary since 2016. The Crime Branch Kashmir has now initiated legal proceedings against the accused after confirming the use of fake certificates to obtain the job.
The accused, identified as Basharat Ahmad from Bandipora, was employed at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) for over eight years under false pretenses. Investigators found that he had submitted forged MBBS degree certificates during recruitment, which went unnoticed during verification at the time.
According to the Crime Branch, a complaint filed by SKIMS led to the investigation, uncovering that the certificates did not match with official records from the concerned universities. Basharat Ahmad has been booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code related to forgery, cheating, and criminal breach of trust.
Authorities are also probing potential lapses in the verification process that allowed the impersonator to remain undetected for such a prolonged period. SKIMS has initiated internal action to strengthen its vetting mechanisms.
