Tehran, May 23, 2025: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that Iran will not agree to a nuclear deal if the United States insists on ending Tehran’s uranium enrichment program. In a live interview with state-run IRIB TV ahead of the fifth round of indirect nuclear talks in Rome, Araghchi emphasized that fundamental differences persist between the two nations.
“The U.S. side does not believe in uranium enrichment in Iran. If this is their objective, there would be no agreement,” Araghchi asserted. He further clarified that while Iran does not seek nuclear weapons, it will not relinquish its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes.
Araghchi also mentioned that although the 2015 nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), is currently ineffective, it could be revived. He underscored that Iran remains open to negotiations but will not compromise on its nuclear program, including uranium enrichment.
The ongoing talks in Rome mark the fifth round of indirect discussions between Iran and the U.S. since April, focusing on Tehran’s nuclear program and the lifting of U.S. sanctions. Despite repeated U.S. demands for Iran to cease uranium enrichment, Tehran maintains that this issue is “non-negotiable.”
President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have discussed a potential deal with Iran, with Trump indicating that the outcome could lead to either a positive diplomatic solution or negative consequences for Iran.
