The United States has announced new sanctions targeting several alleged front organizations and individuals accused of funneling money to Hamas under the guise of humanitarian work. The move, revealed by the US Treasury Department on Tuesday, is part of Washington’s broader efforts to clamp down on global funding channels linked to the Palestinian resistance group.
According to the Treasury, the targeted entities include several charities and networks that claim to provide aid but have instead been allegedly involved in financing Hamas activities. Officials said these networks operate across multiple countries, including Turkey, Algeria, and Lebanon, using deceptive tactics to gather donations from unsuspecting contributors.
Brian E. Nelson, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, stated that the United States remains committed to denying Hamas the ability to exploit charitable organizations for funding. He emphasized that such misuse of humanitarian platforms not only supports armed activities but also undermines genuine aid efforts in Gaza and the broader region.
The sanctions will result in freezing the US-based assets of the targeted individuals and organizations and prohibit Americans from conducting business with them. Washington has also urged allies and international donors to be cautious and vigilant in assessing the credibility of aid channels operating in conflict zones.
These measures come amid increasing scrutiny on how funds flow to conflict regions like Gaza, especially as humanitarian crises deepen and calls grow louder for transparency and accountability in foreign aid.
