In a tragic incident, at least 25 tourists lost their lives and several others were injured in an attack at Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The assault occurred on Tuesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists visiting the scenic area.
The victims include tourists from various states, notably Karnataka and Odisha. Among the deceased is a businessman from Shivamogga district, Karnataka, who was traveling with his family. His wife recounted the harrowing experience, stating that her husband was shot in front of her eyes.
Security forces have launched a comprehensive search operation to apprehend the assailants. While no group has claimed responsibility, authorities suspect militant involvement. The area has been cordoned off, and investigations are ongoing to determine the exact motives and identities of the perpetrators.
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the incident, assuring that those responsible will be brought to justice. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived in Srinagar to oversee the situation and coordinate with security agencies. Local leaders and international figures have also denounced the violence, emphasizing the need for unity and resilience in the face of such tragedies.
