The Jammu and Kashmir Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) has raised concern over reports that certain private schools are continuing to charge admission fees in violation of government norms. Despite clear directions banning such fees, some institutions are allegedly exploiting parents during the admission process.
FFRC Chairman Justice (Retd) Sunil Hali emphasized that the practice of demanding admission fees is illegal and contrary to the committee’s earlier circulars. He said the committee had received multiple complaints from parents, prompting an investigation into the matter.
The FFRC has warned of strict action against erring schools and has urged parents to come forward with specific complaints. “No school can charge an admission fee or any other hidden charges. Violators will face strict penalties, including derecognition,” said the chairman.
The committee also reiterated that schools must adhere to the prescribed fee structure and refrain from profiteering. Officials stressed that private schools are service providers, and accountability must be maintained to ensure fair treatment of students and parents.
The education department has been asked to take proactive steps to monitor fee practices and ensure transparency across all private educational institutions in the Union Territory.
