On July 24, 2025, India urged the United Nations Security Council to demand a full ceasefire in Gaza, stating that brief, intermittent halts in fighting are insufficient to alleviate the deepening humanitarian crisis. India’s UN Ambassador, Parvathaneni Harish, emphasized that civilians continue to suffer from severe shortages of food and fuel, as well as damaged medical facilities and education systems (Maktoob media).

Ambassador Harish noted that nearly 95% of hospitals in Gaza have been destroyed or damaged, and over 650,000 children have been out of school for more than 20 months (Maktoob media). He called for uninterrupted humanitarian aid and the immediate release of all hostages, stressing that “dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable paths” to peace (Maktoob media).

India reaffirmed its historic ties with Palestine—having been the first non-Arab country to recognize Palestinian statehood—and reiterated its support for a two‑State solution with mutually agreed borders (Maktoob media). The country is currently implementing over US $40 million in development projects in sectors like health, education, and infrastructure in Palestine (Maktoob media).

The statement comes amid pressure from over 20 countries and the European Union, which have jointly called for an immediate ceasefire and a political roadmap to achieve lasting peace (The Times of India). India emphasized that temporary pauses will not halt the spiraling humanitarian suffering in Gaza.
