A civilian tragically lost his life in Kashmir after being run over by a police vehicle in the Anantnag district, sparking widespread anger and condemnation from locals and political leaders. The incident occurred near the Sangam area, where the man, identified as Mohammad Yousuf Wagay, was reportedly hit by a police vehicle under unclear circumstances.
Eyewitnesses claim the vehicle was moving at high speed and did not stop after the accident, though police have yet to release a full statement. Videos circulating online show chaos at the site and people protesting the alleged negligence.
Political leaders, including Mehbooba Mufti of the People’s Democratic Party, expressed grief and demanded a fair investigation. “The impunity with which security forces operate in Kashmir is disturbing. The law must take its course,” Mufti stated on social media.
Locals fear that the incident could ignite further unrest in the already sensitive region, which has long witnessed tensions between civilians and security forces. Rights activists are calling for transparency and accountability, insisting that such incidents must not be brushed aside.
The administration has reportedly ordered a probe into the matter, though no arrests or disciplinary actions have been announced so far.
