In a decisive move to curb misinformation, the Indian government has banned 16 YouTube channels operated from Pakistan. Authorities accused these channels of spreading fake news and misleading content aimed at tarnishing the image of the Indian Army and security agencies.
Officials stated that the banned channels were consistently propagating false narratives that could compromise national security and disrupt public order. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said the content was strategically designed to fuel unrest, create panic, and spread communal disharmony.
The crackdown follows India’s broader efforts to counter digital misinformation campaigns originating from across the border. Recently, New Delhi has intensified scrutiny over online platforms to ensure the digital space is not misused for anti-India activities.
The action against these channels also highlights growing concerns over cross-border cyber influence operations. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding India’s national interests by taking stern actions against those exploiting digital platforms.
Authorities reiterated that freedom of expression does not extend to spreading false information that undermines the integrity and sovereignty of the nation.
