On August 5, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump declined to declare support for or opposition to a full Israeli military takeover of Gaza, stating that the decision would be “pretty much up to Israel.” When questioned about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s reported plan to reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip, Trump said he was concentrating on food aid distribution, asserting: “We are trying to feed people in Gaza.” (Al Jazeera)

His comments came as Netanyahu was reported to be finalising a strategy for full territorial control of Gaza, despite concerns from Israeli military leaders and warnings of catastrophic consequences for civilians and hostages. (The Times)

Trump reaffirmed that U.S. efforts were centred on humanitarian relief, mentioning that Israel and Arab states would assist with both funding and distribution. He emphasised the urgency arising from worsening famine conditions in Gaza, stating that the U.S. recently provided $60 million in aid to combat food shortages. (The Times of Israel, Axios)

Despite international pressure for a ceasefire, negotiations have stalled, hostages remain in Gaza, and aid access remains highly restricted. As Netanyahu moves toward a potential occupation, military and diplomatic concerns continue to grow. (AP News)
