The Central Bureau of Investigation has successfully apprehended an Indian national who evaded authorities for over two decades following a murder allegation in Saudi Arabia. Mohammad Dilshad, aged 52, was arrested at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on August 11, 2025, concluding a 26-year pursuit that spanned multiple countries.
The case originated in October 1999 when Dilshad, working as a heavy motor mechanic and security guard in Riyadh, allegedly committed murder in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Following the incident, the Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh resident fled to India and successfully avoided detection for more than two decades.
The investigation gained momentum in April 2022 when Saudi Arabian authorities formally requested assistance from Indian law enforcement agencies. The CBI responded by registering a prosecution case and implementing a Look Out Circular against the suspect. However, Dilshad proved elusive, allegedly traveling across Qatar, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia using falsified documentation and assumed identities.
The breakthrough came when investigators discovered that Dilshad had obtained a new passport through fraudulent means. This discovery enabled the CBI to monitor his movements more effectively, leading to the issuance of a second Look Out Circular. The coordinated effort culminated in his interception while traveling from Madinah via Jeddah.
Following his arrest, Dilshad was placed in judicial custody on August 14, 2025. The CBI emphasized that this arrest demonstrates their unwavering commitment to pursuing justice, regardless of the time elapsed since the alleged crime.
The investigation remains active, with Indian authorities continuing to collaborate with their Saudi counterparts to advance the legal proceedings in this long-standing case.
