China has voiced strong support for Iran’s right to defend its sovereignty and national security, as tensions escalate in the Middle East following intensified Israeli and US military actions. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that Beijing recognizes Tehran’s “legitimate security concerns” and urged all parties to avoid further confrontation.
The statement came during a regular press briefing, where the spokesperson reiterated China’s commitment to regional peace and stability. Mao Ning stated, “China supports the efforts of relevant countries, including Iran, to safeguard their sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The endorsement from China comes as Iran faces increasing military pressure following its retaliation against Israeli and US targets. China, a key trading partner and energy ally of Iran, has consistently called for restraint and diplomatic resolution while opposing unilateral sanctions and military provocations in the region.
Observers see Beijing’s backing as a strategic signal aimed at deterring Western military escalation and maintaining its economic interests in the Gulf. China has played a growing role in regional diplomacy, including brokering normalization talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran in 2023.
Iran welcomed the statement, calling China a “reliable and principled partner” in resisting Western hegemony. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said it would continue coordination with China and other allies to uphold peace, while firmly defending itself against what it calls acts of aggression.
