The Delhi High Court has issued a restraining order against Patanjali Ayurved, barring the company from broadcasting or publishing any advertisements that malign or disparage Dabur’s Chyawanprash product. The court observed that Patanjali’s recent campaigns targeted Dabur in a misleading and negative light, especially by portraying their own product as more ‘natural’ or ‘authentic’ while undermining Dabur’s legacy brand.
Dabur approached the court, stating that Patanjali’s advertisements caused harm to its reputation and misled consumers. Justice Sanjeev Narula, hearing the case, ruled in favor of Dabur, stating that comparative advertising must remain within the boundaries of fair competition and should not degenerate into slander or falsehoods.
The court noted that advertisers cannot make unsubstantiated claims that tarnish a rival’s brand. The matter has been listed for further hearing in August, with both parties expected to submit detailed documentation.
