Deir al-Balah, Gaza – May 23, 2025
Israeli airstrikes have killed six Palestinian security personnel responsible for protecting humanitarian aid convoys in Deir al-Balah, Gaza, according to the Gaza Government Media Office. The deadly strikes targeted teams escorting aid shipments to hospitals and bakeries during the night and early morning hours.
The Gaza Media Office condemned the bombings, accusing Israel of deliberately targeting humanitarian infrastructure to worsen famine conditions in the besieged enclave.
Simultaneously, the World Food Programme (WFP) confirmed that 15 of its trucks delivering supplies to bakeries in southern Gaza were looted. The agency said the looting occurred due to growing “hunger, desperation, and anxiety over whether more food aid is coming,” highlighting a broader breakdown in law and order caused by prolonged shortages and Israeli restrictions.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini described the volume of aid entering Gaza as “a needle in a haystack,” asserting that current access is not nearly enough to prevent mass starvation. UN Secretary-General António Guterres reiterated Israel’s legal obligation to facilitate humanitarian access and said the UN would not engage in delivery mechanisms that violate international humanitarian standards.
The Gaza Media Office also reported that some bodies remain under rubble, inaccessible due to continued Israeli bombardment and sniper fire. Officials labeled the incident a “war crime,” accusing Israel of systematically destroying aid routes and allowing looting to occur unchecked.
The developments mark yet another escalation in the Gaza humanitarian catastrophe, with over 54,000 Palestinians reported killed since October 2023.
Nice share!
