A 20-year-old engineering student tragically ended his life in Hyderabad, allegedly due to severe depression, shedding light on the growing mental health crisis among youth in India. The student, identified as a resident of the Malkajgiri area, was studying at a prominent private engineering college in the city.
According to the police, the student had been struggling with depression for some time, though no suicide note was found at the scene. Family members revealed he had recently become increasingly withdrawn and showed signs of emotional distress.
The police have registered a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (suspicious death), and further investigations are underway. Authorities are also examining possible academic pressure or personal issues that may have contributed to the student’s mental health deterioration.
This heartbreaking incident comes amid a rising number of suicides among students in India, where academic stress, social isolation, and lack of adequate mental health support remain key challenges. Mental health experts have emphasized the urgent need for awareness, counseling services, and institutional support in educational institutions.
If you or someone you know is struggling with depression or suicidal thoughts, please seek help from a mental health professional or contact a suicide prevention helpline in your region.
