Thousands of protestors gathered in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district on Sunday to oppose the Union Government’s controversial Waqf Amendment Act. The demonstration, organized by Ulama bodies and local Muslim organizations, witnessed a sea of people holding placards reading “Save Waqf Properties” and “Stop Politicizing Waqf.”
Speakers at the rally accused the government of attempting to take control over Waqf properties, a move they say undermines the religious and constitutional rights of Muslims. Community leaders emphasized that Waqf properties are meant for the welfare of the poor and must remain independent. They urged the government to revoke the amendments immediately, warning that failure to do so could spark widespread unrest.
The protest remained peaceful, with heavy police deployment ensuring order. Political observers view the rally as one of the largest mobilizations over the Waqf issue in recent times, reflecting growing discontent among minority communities regarding policies perceived as discriminatory.
